I took a different approach this time around. Although the first picture was made up of dots, I was not satisfied them as they did not show up well. I think this one corrects that to some extent.
Here is the procedure:
I used three copies of the original, which had been severely blown out by the channel mixer set to monochrome.
On each of the copies I used Threshold set one to darker, one to lighter, and one in the middle. Each of these layers had median applied to even out the jaggies. Next the top two were lowered in opacity (around 40 percent) to create a smooth-edged shadow effect.
I created a merge visible layer and used median once again.
To the merged layer, I added pixelate>halftone set to a large number.
Next I sharpened the heck out of the layer by pushing the top two settings all the way to the right.
Because pixelate>halftone added back some color, I once again applied the channel mixer set at monotone.
And voila. Done.
I hope this meets the challenge. It was certainly fun as I sit here and wait for everyone to get up.
Merry Christmas,
Janet
