Duplicate Background layer and set blending mode for saturation.

Create a Duplicate of this file, delete the background layer in this new file (leaving the Saturation layer) then convert to grayscale. Copy the Gray channel and go back to the original file and paste into the RED channel.

Merge the two layers

Level's Adjustment in the Red Channel (9,.96,255) Output level 0 and 245

Increase Saturation to 11

Set a curve to raise the midtones (I used In 132 /Out 191) and tweak to your liking

Ooops.. In Step 1 the blending mode should probably be screen. I tried this several ways and although I used Stickey Notes to try to keep track, I think this version was set at Screen. The big changes occur when the gray channel is pasted into the original's red channel which drastically cuts the red cast.
