What a life he must have lived. As crusty and earthy as he looks, I felt he needed a red shirt, one that had been washed until all the color had just about been leached out.
Edit: In response to questions about the colorization, I used at least one layer set to color blend mode for each color in the picture. Some of those layers, once blended, needed to be tweaked. I did that with a Hue/Sat clipping mask set to colorize.
And yes, a "pink" shirt. Everyone else had gone blue or green. The shirt has pleats down the front and was probably once a formal shirt...so I went "formal" sort of...red washed to many times it has turned pink.
