Submitted by Yann Vautrin:

"Hi,

I am new on your forum and I am amazed by the skills of some people here in retouching photo's!

Let me introduce myself first :

I am Yann, a french webmaster and dive instructor, 31years old. I am a basic photoshop user, so i know some tricks but I am far away of being an expert. I am doing a lot of underwater photography, and as you can imagine it is really hard, because of the light disappearing with depth (especially red channel).

I would like to submit you a pict of a wreck I made last year in Indonesia, at 43meters deep. Hope it will qualify for challenge, and that I will learn a lot from the expert around here about retouching underwater pictures.

This picture was made using a sony DSCP-10 digital camera, with no flash, no red filter and no external light.

Cheers.

Yann"

Challenge: Color-correct this photo and include the steps you used

Do your best to retouch "Dive", and post your detailed description plus the results here using the following guidelines:
  • Make sure you're using the largest version of the Challenge photo
  • Enter your name in "Enter a title for the photo"
  • Enter the Challenge type and number in "Descriptive Keywords" (ie: "Photo-Art Challenge #501" or "Manipulation Challenge #132"
  • Include a complete description of the steps you used under "Photo Description". (You might want to write it elsewhere and paste it here)
  • Attach your file as an 800 pixel wide JPG file, compressed so that the overall file is under 200k (this usually means 60% compression).
  • Make sure you post to the correct Challenge
  • If you expect any comments for your entry, offer your comments to other entries

As always, there are no winners, no losers, no prizes, only a sharing and learning opportunity for everyone.

How you restore and how much you restore is up to you, as long as you fulfill the Challenge. Have fun, and good luck!

NOTE: As is the case for ALL RetouchPRO Challenges, there is NO expiration date on this Challenge. Even after other Challenges go up, feel free to upload your version

If you have Photoshop CS, try this: http://www.graphics.com/modules.php?...icle&artid=178 . I do not. Using GIMP, I was able to do some good, but I'm not happy with the results, so I won't post it.

Which user is Yann Vautrin? I'd like to know what color the fins really are?

Hi,

I've been diving and photographing for some time now, and I have found that there is no more efficient way for correcting underwater color cast than using Lab-mode in Photoshop. Mostly it's a correction based on 1 adjustment layer, taking about 2 minutes if you have not made it into an action.

The RGB-method with the best results takes me about 10 minutes, and then I have no garantee that my shades will not turn reddish.

If somebody cares for a little tutorial, give me a PM. Have to write one soon.

I don`t know how to upload my image here so here is a link to my image:https://picasaweb.google.com/1099816...37866535148034

Steps:
1.Match color by checking the neutralise option.
2.Curve adjustment
3.Vibrance adjustment
4.Unsharp mask

Hope you like it.
