Worked the contrast histogram on a copy of the backgroud till I had some detail in it.
Blurred the copy slightly to 1. Remove artefacts 2. Show a little depth of field
Layered it over with a black to orange-yellow gradation and added transparency.
Smudge dirtied the door to fit into the picture more naturally.
I like Janet Petty's hat... absolutely perfect...Her color method is awesome, unfortunately I saw it after I was done struggling with mine )
Pasted back original beard and smoke and feathered it out. Then added transparency.
Made Gamma and Curve adjustments...generally killed the strong sunlight to a much darker effect.

In retrospect I wish I had kept the pants to the diry reddish brown I had originally done instead of the blue jean thingie..

Wanted this looking down n dirty.... Hope it shows up

And these are really outstanding

First, Thank you!!!

And now for the KUDOS. I love the way you not only colored the original but gave it depth and at least on my monitor made it look painterly. Wonderful moody, old feel to the work. Great going.

Janet

I agree with Janet. The dark colors really work with this pic. This proud man would be very happy with the work you have done.

I think the work you did here is outstanding!
The rich colors and the depth of field really grab and hold your attention.

I hope to see more of your work here soon.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.
