Spotted this old restoration at the bottom of the challenges.
It’s over 2 years old. Always meant to try it but never got around to it.

The original had a bad red channel and a very nasty red cast.
I tried replacing the red channel and using all the cast removing methods I knew. None of them worked particularly well.

I de-saturated and decided to color from scratch.
I zoomed in and did a lot of cloning repair work.
Then there was a fair bit of toning with levels.
I made many selections and colored with Hue & Sat.

I did some fine detail repairs on the lady and man’s faces.
Reduced in size to 750 wide and used Neat Image.
It did a great job of smoothing out the grainy skin tones.
And it didn’t soften edges.

I'm still around Matt!

This impressed me!
Just as if the red fog had never been there.
The clarity is superb.
The master at work again.

Cheers

Good to hear from you again Steve,

The original photo had big problems apart from the cast.
The ladies head seemed warped and the man’s head looked
grotesque with overly dark shadows on the wall.
This was a bad photo to begin with.
I hope I have improved it from awful to –average.
I’d be happy with that result.

Good job Matt. This is a tough one - I've played with it a bit. Your skin tones are great!

Thanks Margaret,
A lot of head banging went on with the skin colors.
I always have trouble adding skin color on a B&W.
Glad to get this one finished in case it is dropped.
