I'm new to this site and think it's great. I know this is an old challenge, but I couldn't resist. I was captivated with Henrietta.

I can't remember everything I did: Desaturated, separated Henrietta, chair, and background, (Thinking I might colorize it).

Replaced blouse with one of my GG Grandmothers', and background with the background of a wedding photo of a different GG Grandmother.

Hours and hours of of cloning, patching, healing, and burning. Adjusted levels, brightness and contrast, and converted to sepia.

What a stunning woman.

Edit:

I ran across a print I made of this restoration and was not completely happy with it. I noticed it was WAY to contrasty. I also realized that while I put her on a new background, I must have transformed her so that she looked different from the original. (Her face too thin).

Anyway, had to fix these things. - Hope it's better.

Apart from your wonderful restoration work, I think your decision to replace the obliterated bg with this one (and to not colourize) has resulted in a very authentic, antique look. Very well done!

Your hours and hours of work show in this fine restoration.
Great job in seamlessly replacing the wall and carpet
with that of a photo of a similar era.
It blends perfectly with Henrietta and the chair.

Very, very nice job. I also like the way that you blended the new background with the Henrietta.
I like that you kept the antique look and did not try to modernize the portrait.

Wow! Really impressive! I think you did a wonderful job of remaining true to the tone of the original photo, keeping it in the same time era and environment. It's beautifully done!
