The original photo was 32 tears old.
I was intending to use subdued colors.
And try to keep it looking like an old color photo.
But Steve and RKAA beat me to it.
With two fine aged color jobs in front of me
I decided change tack and have some fun.
Just for once I decided to break out of the cage and go berserk with color.

This is a Bollywood restoration.
Vibrant colors and full-scale glamour treatment.

Interesting what rotating it did to her body language. The original displays a submissive posture, while she gets a more "liberated" look in the more upright position. That nasty shadow on her throat is cleaned up very well here.. mine is still a mess.. Gotta make yet a version!

Matt --

Nice work on the new take. Colors are excellent. Restoration, as always, is well done.

Steve, RK and Lorraine,
Many thanks for the comments.

Saikat said this photo of his mother is 32 years old.
That means it was taken in 1973.
I just can’t believe it.
I looked hard at the original.
It looks like a 1940s photo.
I wonder what other members think?

Matt;
I wondered too. By the damaged looks I thought it was from around the 50ties, myself. Perhaps Saikat expressed himself vaguely, and it's a pic of his mom at age 32?
But I guess.. depending of paper, quality of the chemicals involved, exposure to sunlight etc, it's quite possible to treat a photo from the 70ties that bad as well.

I lived in a poor country Middle East a year in the early 70ties, and mingled with a local photographer. He also used flat paper, allthough textured paper was "fashion" at the time. You take what you get. The pictures from back then certainly are way better than this one, allthought the paper quality was dubious and the chemicals often stored at wrong temperatures.

One thing that gossips about an older age is the size of the white border around the image: unusual for the 70ties, AFAIK. Then again..it's a pro studio pic and the photographer may have had an "old fashioned" taste.

In brief: Dunno. Perhaps Saikat can solve the riddle for us, if s/he is around?

R.K.
