I couldn’t place the age of this photo.
So here goes another version.
Not quite so modern.

I’m not sure if the frame adds anything.
It took me ages to get the picture sized correctly in the frame.
There is probably an easy way, but I’m too dumb to work it out.

Best Wishes

Great improvement on skin colors. You have added over 20000 colors since the previous version and it shows. (Counted cropped in PSP9) The contrast between object/background is a little too sharp for my taste now, and I'm not quite sure about the "biblical painting" look on her garnment, but the extra hours certainly paid of on face and background. And her lip coloring is delicious.

Thanks for the comments RK,
I had intended giving her face a slightly painted look to match the sari.
But it was late and I ran out of steam.
I hated the blown out sari on the original.
I spotted a dress in an old painting and did a cut and paste job.
Then rotated and stretched to resemble a sari.

I'm not too keen on any overly soft edges on a close-up portrait.
Abrupt depth of field changes in old photos is pretty uncommon.
I wanted the outer edges of her hair, cheek and shoulder
to match the clarity in the eye and lip area.
You must have your new 19" monitor. You've got sharp eyes.

Matt:
You don't do things by halves, do you!
I wouldn't have the patience to re-work a dress into a sari.
Not only that; it fits too!
Have you also got a loft full of picture frames, or is it visits to galleries with a digital camera?

All the best Matt

Steve

Steve – I had guessed you were on holidays.
Multiple restorations, glamour lighting, hair styling and Audubon birds!

I’m over my love affair with old frames. That was the last.
They rarely add anything to a restoration.
But I’ve found an oval frame can help hide severe damage
in the lower area of a portrait.

Best Wishes
Matt

Mate, this is one of the better restorations of this pic that I've seen. You've thrown down the gauntlet!

Thanks for the comments Peth,
I wasn't happy with the way this one came out.
I've got a bad habit of charging into a restoration
without planning in advance what to do.
I need to do more portrait work.
Now where is that Wacom?
