I took this into PainterIX and cloned it, then using my favorite artisti pastel chalk brush for most of the image in varying opacitys. For the background I used sabel chisel tip water to blend colors that I took from the birds feathers.

The duplicated pastel background colours work soooo well.
A different approach, but one thats worked well.

Thanks for the comments. I have been using Painter almost as long as Photoshop. The two work together beautifully. The cloning aspect in Painter is marvelous as you can reveal parts of the photo and if you reveal too much you can back up. It works with layers also. Powerful program.
