Desaturated original.
Level adjustments to lighten photo.
Copied, pasted and cloned parts of the photo that I could make out, i.e., left eye, right ear, part of right eye.
Used other photos to supplement missing skin and hair. Copied, pasted, transformed and made level adjustments to blend those areas.
Adjusted the skin texture with multiple low opacity dust & scratch removal selections.
Duplicated the working layer and did an overall blurring with Neat Image to blend the mottled looked from all of the superimposing. Lowered that layer opacity and erased areas to bring some details back in.
Dodge and burn tools to create facial structure and dress contours.
Added noise to try to unflatten the look.
Hand colored photo. First, used original color photo in low opacity, color blend mode to bring in some of the original tones. The worked on separate layers, color blend mode, and painted in the final colors.
Found a floral fabric sample. Hue/Saturation adjustment on that to match original colors. On a separate layer, I copied and pasted the leaves and flowers from that over original painted areas. Duplicated that layer and ran dry brush filter. Lowered the dry brush layer opacity and merged with floral layer. Merged that to the working layer.
Used original earring, hue/saturation/color adjustment. Smudged, dodged and burned earring to create a new one. Copied right earring and adjusted that to create left earring.
Added more facial detail by selecting areas feathered at 8 and copying those selections to new layers set at either multiply or screen blend modes to create shadows and highlights.
Made a final contrast adjustment.
