1. Applied a levels adjustment layer. I
2. Duplicated this Levels layer, set the opacity for it to 42%.
3. Created a WIP layer and and saved the document as Stage 1.
4. Converted to LAB color space.
5. Applied a Levels adjustment to the L channel until I had almost a black and white image.
Used this for mask in next steps.
6. Copied this BW channel into the Stage 1 document
7. Loaded the mask channel as a selection and inverted the selection.
7. Added a Color adjustment level using an off white color and set the blend mode to Screen
and the Fill opacity to 79%.
8. Created a WIP layer.
9. Using the mask again I reselected the Police officer.
10. Added another Color adjustment layer using a darker color from the uniform. I set the
blend mode to Overlay and opacity to 35%. I painted on the mask with Black to
eliminate the face from being darkened.
11. I created another WIP layer. I selected the hat emblem and layered via copy, setting
the new layer to Screen blend mode and 96% opacity.
12. I created a new layer and used a combination of the clone and patch tools to eliminate
the worst of the cracks and fill in the uniform bottom.
13. Then I zoomed into ~350% so I could work at the pixel level and used a very small
clone tool so that I could work on the face area and eye area cracks.
14. After getting the face filled in I made another WIP layer.
15. I created a rough selection around the face and applied a Surface Blur. I added a
mask layer to this and used a small black brush to paint over the eyes, eyebrows and
mouth so they were not blurred.
16. I created another WIP layer and used the healing tool to blend the coat and any
remaining rough areas.
17. Used a Hue/Saturation layer to add back the Sepia ton
