First I was able to remove the most obvious cracks by cloning.
For most of this picture, with the exception of the faces, I used a guassian blur 3 pixels to soften the rest of the photo surface faults. The faces I improved by using blur techniques followed by sharpening of the facial expression. Finally I applied colour to the picture.
