impressive workflow and description there, love the pic, but maybe to my eye a little flat, but maybe a bit of noise would naturalise it a bit for me or maybe it is too 'clean' to look natural. Mind you I have 6 kids so used to chips on the floor

Thanks Cassidy.
I've just redone it a bit incorporating your suggestion regarding noise. Also added auto levels and auto contrast adjustments.
Love your "too clean" comment. I have only a husband, and we always have chips on the floor

Marvelous restore, Lorraine (and thank you for the detailed description - lots to learn there). Well worth the wait. And I, too, had kids (now dogs). It may be that retouching after the fact is the only way to keep the floor clean!

Thanks so much, Carole.
I'm happy that you're learning here, as I have. And there's still so much more for me to learn.
LOL about cleaning the floor. How many times in real life, do I wish I could just click on the undo button.
Best wishes to you in this wonderful Season.

Wonderful restoration work Lorraine,
Nicely balanced tones. It looks clear and sharp.
I like the way you have done Santa’s beard and face.
Waaah! You didn't lower Mom's shoulder.
I feel out on a limb being the only one fiddling with it.
Good guess on the popcorn.
Cassidy thought it was chips.
I thought it was fairy floss.

Hi Matt,
As always, your comments mean a lot to me.
The raised shoulder does look way out of perspective. I thought about lowering it, but it was much too prominent in the original photo so I decided not to touch it.
Your version looks more natural. I always struggle with the rules of restoration. I did break the rules by removing the papers on the floor, hand and half woman. I didn't think those things were the main focus of the photo.
I believe that changing a restoration in order to enhance it would be the decision of the client. Here we can only try to do what we think is best.
Regarding the mystery food, I have an advantage on guessing popcorn balls. I was around in that time period and remember them as Christmas treats
