A toughy but not too bad.
-started with channel mixer with monochrome checked
-then dust and scratches filter on the girl and dog and gaussian blur on background to remove a fair amount of noise.
-used a curves layer to increase contrast
-applied colour on 13 layers
-ran a pattern maker to smooth out girl and dog
-finished off with vignette to focus on the girl and dog.

I really like the vignette. Keeping the colours softish suit the restoration but I can't help but wonder if a little more detail/sharpness could not be brought out

Welcome to RetouchPro Bassman,
I think the muted colours and dark corners work well.
This old blurred and grainy photo was a very tough restoration.
I put in over 3 hours work on this and made it look awful.
I had the same idea as Cassidy. Add more definition and sharpness.
But the harder I tried the worse it looked.

Thanx for writing back....really appreciate it.
I did try sharpening as well, but there was so much damage that it became a fruitless task. Even a bit of USM made it look too grainy.
Hope you're all having a good chrissy.
