This was such a great photo I wanted to take a stab at it. I worked on it around Christmas but didn't finish and left it alone for a while, and just finished it. I wanted to stay as true to the original as I could, while at the same time correcting the color fading.
1. With a levels layer took out the yellow cast in Santa's beard, hat and sleeves, and it also brightened the photo a little.
2. Did major cloning to repair the cracked areas in the photo.
3. Used a litlle amount of glaussian blur to blend skin.
4. Repaired the background with some cloning, and painting.
5. With a combination of cloning and painting, I created Santa's left knee.

Looks great Alan - spotless cleanup and adjustments not pushed too far. He does seem a little over-dressed for June though... maybe a shave, haircut, T-shirt and shorts?

Hi Doug:
It's been a while, hope you are doing well.
Because it's June and warm, I had to promise Santa a trip back to the North Pole right after the restoration. He would not shave, get a haircut, nor wear anything but his normal attire.

Alan,
This is really beautiful work. I'm glad you came back to it. It really is a year-round photo....my friend kept the old torn one on her bulletin board all the time.
Thanks,
Taylor

Taylor:
Thank you. As I said it was such a great photo I really felt it should be restored.
Alan
