Balanced image with levels on the faded part to restore even tone. Restored scratches and marks with much cloning and patch tool and heal brushes. Once the cleanup was done I set about putting some life back into the photo. I cooled down the shadows with a colour adjustment later, and warmed up the highlights. Burned the shadows around ill defined areas, around the boy and around the bushes. Lastly added a high pass sharpen and layer mask, where I revealed selective areas to sharp. Used the same mask but inverted and reduced noise with dust and scratches. Then added back in the old damaged area for the frame.
