Like Janet I discarded the gritty blue channel.
Then I repaired the damaged areas with the patch tool.

The entire photo was covered in dark spots.
I had to clean her skin without making it too smooth.
I opened the Retouching Bible. {Restoration by Katrin Eismann}
And used the Perfect Makeup tutorial.
I was happy the way it worked.

One thing really bugged me about this photo.
She is a very attractive young lady.
But her nose seems to be so so long.
I think the way she has lifted her top lip in an
open mouth smile accentuates the long nose look.
In the original there was very little detail around the tip of her nose.
So I took the liberty of shortening her nose a couple of pixels.

Hope the color looks ok Wes.
I am trying hard not to color everything I do.
As you can see I'm not having much success.

That looks really nice Matt. I like the color, and I didn't know that you had manipulated the nose until I read your description. Very good.

The overall effect you created is very nice and a compliment to your skill. I also like the detail you were able to pull out of the dress. Thumbs up.

Nice one, Matt. Your cosmetic surgery meets the ideal - not noticeable until it's pointed out and even then hard to see. Colors are great (though I had pictured her as a redhead with green eyes ).

Guy, Janet & Carole. Thanks for the comments.
When I finished restoring this photo it looked fine in b&w.
I was afraid I might make a mess of it by adding color.

The hardest part for me to restore was around the tip of her nose.
I spent a long time on it.

Great job Matt...
I have been out of town and just got your restoration...
Skin and blouse were excellent...The nose work shows...
Color was excellent for me except the blue blouse...
Thanks
Wes

Thanks Wes,

I wanted to make the blouse white.
But had trouble with the blown out areas.
I'm not keen on the blue so I might try to
change it to white.
I failed. I just couldn't get a natural looking white.
The best compromise was this slightly muddy yellow.

I actually like the yellow, Matt. Makes a more natural looking colorization, and fits the original gray value better than the blue did.
