My still crummy cloning + little facial detail = frustration. I started this one weeks ago and put it aside and dragged it out again a couple of days ago. I started with the usual try to find the original levels and went on from there. Loads of little hue/saturation layers to correct the blotchiness. The goat was a pain and I'm not sure about the tack. I did give the goat an eye and some hair extensions. I took a guess on the house next door and gave it some brick and used what details I could find in the blown white damaged area. Ended with a dodge and burn layer and sighed with relief.
Having never seen a goat cart before I did a web search and was amazed to find them all over the place. Katrin Eismann has a restoration of a similar photo on her website only that one says "Lincoln 1921" on the wagon. I found similar ones on antique web sites flogging pictures, all with different cities and years in the early 1920's. I thought it might be a traveling photographer concession kind of thing like the man who came to the neighborhood with a pony when I was a kid. Climb aboard, have your picture taken, and collect the fee from mom. Can you imagine traveling with a goat?
