One way of getting rid of the grain is to dup the image, run add noise uniform 7 to 14 max,
Next dup the background again, place it on the very top & run a noise removing utility. Dup this one too… then on one of this noiseless layer set blending mode to lighten 50% & on the other one to darken 50%.

Excellent job on Superboy. Can you tell me how you got rid of the grain. I tried your brief detail and it didn't seem to work. I use PS6. I don't really know if or how to use a noise remover in the program. Thanks. Sly1

The main purpose of the steps mentioned above is to convert the "large" grain to a smaller noise & then use any noise eliminating software + selective high pass filter to clean up the pic.
