I tried to make this look as close as I could to how it might have looked years ago. I started out by using curves/levels to try and correct some of the fading and bring out more of the existing info. Most of work was done just with the rubber stamp tool in varying sizes and opacity. I cloned a few pieces of the background edges and then flipped/rotated/sized & blended them in to fix the corners/bad spots. I fixed the bluish (water damage?) parts and evened out the color with the brush tool on color mode, using color sampled from the photo. I used a mouse for the whole thing because I don't have my tablet set up right now. It took a while, but I also only worked on it for a little bit at a time.
Restorations are one of my favorite things to do, and I had fun with this one. Does anyone know if there's a way to get permission to use any of the challenges in one's personal portfolio? I'd love to be able to use this one.
