Doug asked for a complete description of how the restoration was done, that's tuff to do but I'll try. I started with a duplicate layer and zoomed in to about 700% then started in with the patch tool. I used different layers set to darken and lighten blend modes where replacing wasn't neccacary. I used the clone tool a few times around edges where the patch tool blured too much. I made one good patch with the texture of the origional and the used the patch tool to give the entire background that same texture.
OK so 3 days and almost 100 layers later, I finished by cleaning up the color by sampling good color and painting over yellowed areas. I used a curves layer to bring back some of the origional hue. I used a gausian blur layer set to color blend mode to take care of some of the rest of the hot colors. Lastly I applied a HS layer and bumped the color 20% to counter the years of fading.

Very nice retouch. Any customer would be pleased with these hard to achieve results. I love the contrast and detail.

Nice job! 100 layers!! and 3 days!! sounds like you put in a lot of effort, If you reworked it from the start do you think you could get those layers down a bit?
