Restoration Challenge #104
There where so many 2 paces forward and 3 back that I cannot remember every step I took but it is basically this:
1.copied and pasted pic as background layer duplicated as layer 1.
2.I searched for a pic with what I felt was a suitable background I then copied and pasted it and moved it under the layer 1. I then made layer 1 into a mask layer and removed irepairable background to reveal background underneath.
3. Using the levels curves and channels I looked for extra details especially on the mans face. Even though it is a b/w pic there was a little more detail in the individual channels than in the combined rgb channel.
4.Using a mixture of clone tool burn and dodge and following the shape of the face fromm a picture of a similar face I filled in the missing bits.
5. I "borrowed" clothes from other old images and did more or less the same for the little boy.
6. I merged all the layers and again did a duplicated layer and on the bottom layer gave it a gaussian blur of 3.1 made the top layer once again into a mask and very carefully revealed the smoother skin from the bottom layer but leaving the facial features untouched.
