Wonderful! I love the eyes and your repair of the hand is flawless. I think you made an excellent decision to stop when you did...it still feels like a tintype to me.
My only criticism is that the bottom of the babies dress seems overly sharpened...but that might be a result of the jpeg compression.

Nice work! I especially like the work on the baby's face.
Two questions:
1. What is the benefit of converting to CMYK and using the cyan channel?
2. Is it just me, or did this baby have some obscenely large hands?

1. The cyan channel looked relatively clean and had much less damage than the others I checked
2. I didn't notice it before, but now that you mention it, those are some mitts on that kid!

Jak -- excellent work on the baby. I'm sure that the baby is glad to have a thumb again -- can't go thru a day without a thumb in the mouth!
The background seems a bit distracting to me, but I certainly respect your decision to retain the look of the original as much as possible, and you have acheived that admirably!

Nice work on the Tin Type baby Jak and you too VisualEyes, I viewed your submission also.
As to the large hands on the baby, you know how you look at a puppies paws and by the size of the paws you can tell if the puppy will grow up to be a large dog or an average size dog.
Well this baby is my grandfather, my mothers father and he grew up to be a very big man, 6' 3" very broad chest and shoulers. I wish I could find a picture of him when he was in his 20's or 30's but for some reason there doesn't seem to be any other photos of him until he was in his mid to late 50's. By this time farm life and working in the coolers as a meat cutter had taken a toll on him and his health.
Thanks to everybody that has taken time to work on this picture. I found it quite a challenge for me being new to retouch and restoration.

You made good choices. I tend want to make "new". Saving versions often helps the comparison

There is a nice soft, relaxing look to your restoration. The eyes are great and the overall level of restoration is very respectful. The kid's left boot is glowing just a tad much(?)

Very clean dress and natural looking face, dress, and posture. The line in the middle of the dress added to making it look more real. And I especially like th clean look of the shoes. The fingers look great too...all a natural looking size. I don't like to change things too much either, and you did a great job (of course)!
