Hi... not that imaginative... but good fun to do. Title: "The stars look very different today" (Bowie).

No fancy brushes or styles or anything. Tablet, yes.

Step 1 -
Duplicate layer to keep original... layer mask, careful cut-out of figure

Step 2 -
Create a group... ended up with 5 layers each one using levels to lighten or darken and the layer mask to tone in each layer.
What I was trying to do was shift the lighting emphasis so he looks to be lit from below as much as above... light reflecting from the earth beneath him. Considerably darkened his helmet (keeping the saturation in check) and was able to successfully change the lighting on the arm a fair bit.

Step 3 - Another group
Three layers. One with black to dark blue graduated fill.
One with pale blue feathered circle fill.
One with circle stroked with white and given a blur.
Voila: rough background to give me context to judge step 4 and 5 against.

Step 4 - glow fun.
Step 4A
Duplicated the group so I could merge four layers down into the fifth preserving the layer mask on the fifth but applying all the rest... because I wanted to keep the background. Reason....
Step 4B
Playing with the layer masks, having fun, drawing on them, liquifying, blurring.. just messing about really lightening the image using levels and each layer seemed to work best on 'overlay' or 'soft light'. The original has a light background so, I just let that show through hence some odd lines.. cloned out one really offensive one. Essentially I ended up with several layers creating the background swirly glows (just cos I was hedging my bets in case I didn't like stuff). The light from the finger thing was a happy accident due to a liquify.
Step 4C
Then I created a couple of blank layers and just drew some random soft brush squiggles, blurred, layer mask to being the foreground glows in and out. Think I added a layer style 'outer glow' to one.

Step 5 - sparkly fun.
Sparklies. Standard default star brushes, lot's of playing with the brush settings, esp spatter, spacing and dual. Smidge from the finger cos it woulda been rude not to. Added an outer glow style with noise which was a bit much but still nice so duplicated layer. Set one to less opacity and switched off the outer glow on the other... always looking for subtlety... Each layer has a layer mask and the group ended up with one.

Step.. abandoned...
Started getting a bit particular then and had to remind myself I was only playing... tweaking layer masks.. ie: to bring the wheels of the board and his magic finger in front of glow/sparkles as they were getting a bit lost and added a bit more glow to his face... stuff like that... but stopped or I'd have got too serious...

Step 6 - background returns
Added stars to top.. shoulda changed the outer glow form that odd yellow.. but well... then another layer with the standard horrible clouds filter. Ooo, quite nice. Ended up with two, one on overlay and graduated layer mask (top section) and another on a weaker opacity masked for the earth shape and seemed better on soft light...

Final step was to add the suggestion of the take off location...

Hope you've enjoyed... I have, thank you, was fun. Been meaning to play for ages.
