This is my completed retouch for Author Jen. I'm not so adept with layers, so I only copied this once, and worked on that layer. I used the Heal brush in GIMP for everything, plus once over with Unsharp Mask, and very slightly with Softglow. I removed the flyaways, even though I thought they gave her a certain "devil-may-care" attitude. In taking away the fly-aways, I also lost the slight drop shadow to her right. I suppose I could have created a new background for her and add a shadow, but somehow those always look too stylized to me.
Anyway, that's my effort - I feel I was somewhat timid, but didn't want to go too far, and create something wholly different to what was presented. I wanted to keep her natural look as much as possible. Plus, I am not too confident with Layers, and manipulating them to their best effect. Anyone know any sources to read?
