I tried different color cast removal tricks before ditching those efforts, creating a grayscale image and colorizing. To create the grayscale image, I copied and pasted one channel with the least amount of damage into the other two. Then, I painted on layers set to color mode above the grayscale image, reducing opacity of these layers to prevent from looking too saturated and fake. Cloning, and healing tools to remove damage. After getting the color back into the people and rug, I cheated with the background by bringing in one of my own and blurring a bit.
