This is a picture of my very good friend Paula and her daughters Claire and Kate, my challenge to you is to turn this into a pencil drawing, doesn't matter what program you use, or if its black and white or colour, just that you need to add how you did the picture, so show us your technique.

I too shall try this one.

Selected background and deleted it.
Desaturated.
Ran through Illustrator filter by Xero.
Added cross hatching.
Ran through colored pencil filter and desaturated.
Created new background layer, filled with white, added noise with the monochromatic box checked, and added angled strokes.
Duplicated the above layer added gausian blur merged with foreground layer and cropped.
merged with other background layer and cropped again.
assorted levels and curves adjustment layers.

Can't take much credit for this one other than I like the result.

I removed the background by varying magic wand and lasso.
Ran an action called Midnight Serenade which I grabbed here from RetouchPRO.
Removed the two sketch type layers form the numerous created and merged them together and got rid of the rest.

I like the result of a simple sketch on white paper.
But, nonetheless, not really my work.

This is a variation of an old method -- I was adding different steps to see if I could improve the results, and I think I found a step that does:

In Photoshop, apply the filter Artistic-->Poster Edges (the sliders for THIS image were set at 5-8-5, but you adjust them for different images. In general, the Edge intensity and Posterization amount need to be set at 5 or more).

The different step than what I've heard about (but I'm sure there's a tutorial that lists it somewhere on the internet) is to then run Stylize --> Diffuse -- anisotropic, then go to Image--> Adjust - Threshold. There you have to move the slider to the right and left to determine what look you want.

For those of you who have followed Trimoon's sketching technique, this one will be pretty easy to recognize. Unfortunately, when I saved for web, I also flattened the photoshop file and don't have the specific steps used.

I like your results. The border looks great and the three women look pretty much like a detailed pencil drawing.

Here's mine :)

Extracted the women from the background and applied smart blur to soften slightly. Placed a white background on layer beneath them.

Duplicated layer with extracted figures on twice. On first layer applied india ink set on diffuse then stylise, diffiuse, ansio (twice). Set blend mode to luminosity at 100%

On second duplicate applied graphic pen filter and inverted it. Set blend mode to soft light at 54%. Selected All and merged into new layer and applied a b/w circular gradient mask to soften the edges.

Placed a plain white layer below this then went and had something to eat !! :)

Used Trimoon's ink technique with the art history brush, then added back details with the history brush.

Finally, after 3 entries all of which i scrapped, I'm satisfied with my result.
Erased bckgr. Desaturated with channel mixer adjustments, picked up shades via color range, on blank layers, and multiplied to get the effect i was after. Merged.

Palms that is very pretty, i guess Claire does look like the uk actress/singer.
