So, let's play a little...

You'll probably have to fix the "green-eye" first! :)
The style you're trying to replicate:

Don't worry about detailed "how to" instructions/detail on this one. Just focus on the results.
On your mark, get set, go! :)
~Danny~ Legacy~Art 04-01-2005, 02:08 PM Wow Danny i don't even know where to start... Legacy~Art 04-01-2005, 02:21 PM Thanks Danny that was funny... Legacy~Art 04-01-2005, 02:23 PM Could you not give us a mean looking dog? this one now looks like a girlie carpet lol! Janet Petty 04-01-2005, 03:11 PM I've been following the "how can I do this" in the other part of this forum; and I agree with Danny that these pictures are digitally produced.
I'm glad this challenge was posted. It will be interesting to see the different techniques we all come up with.
Here is my first. More to follow, I'm sure.
Janet
P.S. Next time I think I'll do a cat. Evil snicker. hehehehe Meow. Thanks Danny for taking the initiative once again and posting a challenge that I find I'm always learning something new from!!!!
A Warhol Acrylics Painted Pooch on Glicee Canvas.... :rolleyes: zip022 04-01-2005, 08:40 PM I'm just a bit slow, just realized you started this with my request in mind...very cool. I will give it a try tomorrow as I'm too tired to go at it tonight. Again, thanks and looking forward to seeing everyone's work.
Deb rocketfuel 04-01-2005, 10:28 PM Not really my thing but it was a fun try DannyRaphael 04-02-2005, 08:43 AM Photoshop:
* Extract dog onto separate layer
* Create color panels on separate layers (picked colors kind of at random)
* Save, close
Open in Painter 8
* Clone and paint ##
* Sampled dogs brown color with eyedropper, then chose the opposite (complimentary) color on the color wheel and painted a sploch onto a new layer
* Save and close
Open in Photoshop
* Sampled the "complimentary" color with the Eyedropper tool to set the foreground color
* Created a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer above one of the color panel layers. Turned on the colorize option, which sets the Hue, Saturation, Lightness to the sampled color. (It's the cobolt-blue panel that goes across the bottom.)
* Merged adjustment layer with the layer below.
* Merged the color panel layers.
* Applied Unsharp mask to the merged background color layer
* Applied Unsharp mask to the dog layer
* Added a stroke frame
A different style (more "painted" than just Photoshopped) than Suzanne's, but this would be the general technique if she's creating her paintings based on Photoshop.
## Painter 8 brushes used:
* A couple from the Impasto group (set to clone) to create the individual color panel layers
* Smeary Camel, Bristle Brush for brush effects and Soft (for detail restoration) from the Cloners group
* Blender: Grainy Blender
* Charcoal: Charcoal - to add highlights/lowlights, which were blended in using Grainy Blender zip022 04-02-2005, 10:14 AM I give up...for now. Ha Ha zip022 04-02-2005, 12:30 PM Before I completely give up ship...here's a Paint Engine effect. Legacy~Art 04-02-2005, 12:42 PM WOW Deb that is gorgeous, well done!!! Don't give up hun DannyRaphael 04-02-2005, 01:37 PM I give up...for now. Ha Ha
This one and the Paint Engine effect = "You're rolling, now!" -- another way of saying 'You're losing your mind' (in a good way) I guess! :)
Like Legacy said, keep experimenting and having fun. CJ Swartz 04-02-2005, 06:12 PM I didn't care for your choice of dog either, Danny. :) Her website uses mostly shorthaired dogs with white markings that are easier to add a "pop" hue to, so I found another dog to embarrass with weird colors at gal.mvc.ru (free distribution). It's still not the best choice because it's a longshot rather than a closeup, but it'll do for me.
I used both Image --> Posterize and the Cutout filter to abstract the dog, then extracted the background and abstracted/colored it more. Legacy~Art 04-02-2005, 06:34 PM Hello C.J.
Using CJ dog i did this... righthanddesign 04-02-2005, 07:00 PM Did this is about 10 minutes. This is how I would have painted this dog. I would make it a little cleaner and such but you get the idea from me. zip022 04-02-2005, 08:13 PM Here's my attempt again at this weird-o process.
I thought I quit, but it's just too much fun.
Deb DannyRaphael 04-02-2005, 10:04 PM Based on Suzanne's prices, I'd say we've got enough art in this thread to have a REALLY BIG party! :)
I'm glad we're having fun with this one. Keep 'em coming. Fizzgiz 04-02-2005, 11:11 PM Very odd stuff. I'm going to have psychodelic dog nightmares tonight. Thanks Danny :rolleyes:. Well at least I got some practice with my pen, and learned some things. And of course, I did have fun. So seriously, thank you Danny. :) jaykita 04-03-2005, 04:09 AM I should be so lucky if someone buys this! Good for you Judy - it's VERY Warholish :nod: ;) kiska 04-03-2005, 08:32 AM Here is a variation. Janet Petty 04-03-2005, 01:32 PM Kiska, tis nice to see you took time away from your virtual love affair with J. to create an exceptional piece. :lmao:
Sooie,
Janet kiska 04-03-2005, 01:42 PM Dang, I can't escape! This torrid affair is 'hush, hush", now. philbach 04-03-2005, 03:21 PM Hmm. I tried to use the same effect. Shoshanna 04-03-2005, 09:47 PM First I'd like to thank everyone for the very warm welcome you offered-- you really made me feel right at home. Danny, your comment in the guest book at my gallery was especially appreciated, and it was very nice of you to post a link at this site to my pictures. I'm going to like it here, and you've certainly encouraged me to participate!
Margaret, in answer to your question, my work on the brother&sister image was done entirely in Photoshop-- I've been working on a new technique for easily creating various types of sketches from photographs. It was my intention to answer your post within the thread for the brother&sister images, but tonight the thread seemed nowhere to be found! In the future I'll try very hard to respond more quickly-- sometimes, I'm afraid, deadlines for the work we have to complete must take priority over those projects with which we'd like to play! (And editors are notoriously short on both tolerance and humor when it comes to deadlines!)
So, finally, here is a quick rendition I did of the cute little dog-- these challenges are fun and relaxing, and I enjoy them. This obviously is not what is usually considered "a man's dog", but I love working with all that fur!
Thanks for letting me participate.
Take care,
Shoshanna
http://www.pbase.com/shoshanna Shoshanna 04-03-2005, 09:53 PM Just to better show the paint effect and appearance of brushwork I'm uploading a cropped version of the dog picture-- it probably should have accompanied the earlier post, but I hadn't realized it was possible to attach two separate images to the same message. My apologies!
Take care,
Shoshanna
http://www.pbase.com/shoshanna Beautiful work Shoshanna. :bow: Was doggie done entirely in Photoshop as well? Shoshanna 04-04-2005, 02:47 PM Thanks, Amanda-- and yes, this was strictly a Photoshop job. I was stuck on a phone call that had gone on way too long, and decided to do improve the shining hour by indulging in some digital doodling. <g>
Take care,
Shoshanna
