Hi everyone. Here is another pic of my son to play with. Have fun! I did, as this was my first real painting I've done. I think I overdid it with the hair, lol.

I knew there was something not right with the hair. It looked like he was wearing a hat or something. Anyway, it was too much hair on the left. Toned it down a bit.

Hi Fizz. Thanks for the picture to play with. I've been distracted not doing much photo art lately. I gave this a go with Painter8 digital water color. The CourseMop brush produced the background and the CourseDry everything else. This was done freehand sampling colors from the original after first tracing the key features with the 2B Pencil variant. The JustAddWater Blender helped smooth the rougher strokes. I finished with a light paper texture.

Great picture to work with. Thanks! :)

I played with Paint Daubs among other things with this one. I don't really remember what I did as I got caught up running this frame action and trying a couple of compositional things that didn't pan out!

I have fiddled around with this photo on and off for about 4 days now. No matter what I did I didn't like the results and would start over. Eventually I came up with this.

Duplicated background.
Smart blur.
Posterize (10 levels I believe).
Duplicate layer.
On first posterized layer, adjusted color on the red channel.
On second poseterized layer, adjusted colors on blue channel.
Merge the 2 posterized layers.
Watercolor filter.
Select child and copy.
add a layer mask to the watercolor layer using gradient.
Paste child on new layer.

I used the following method to remove the harsh edge of the child's head against the empty part of the background.
Select child again by control>clicking on thumbnail in layer pallet.
Select>modify>contract (5px)
Select>feather (5px)
Select>invert

Sorry I haven't had time to post in a while. The weather has been so nice that my little one and I have been outside all the time. I have to work on getting a laptop, or I won't be doing any work this summer! Anyway, I loved all your work on this pic.
Cardmnal, I know what it feels like to keep playing and have it not be to your satisfaction. That is the trouble with us artists! I have been in the process of a pic before, and had someone see it, and think that it was awsome. It's all about perception and I love doing it. Keep up the good work, and you too Tyler, SWEngineer, and of course Legacy.
Trimoon, I don't have to tell you that you are simply great with that Art History Brush. I am honored to have you paint my son.

I'm thoroughly fascinated with Danny's impr Smudge paint and intend to use it a LOT! THANKS DANNY!
For this image, I duped original (L2) and applied Danny's smudge paint S, duped layer (L3) and inverted, softlight blend. Duped L2 again and applied stamp filter with black and brown colors, L4. Lowered opacity of L4. Merged.
