Can anybody point me to a tut for adding a negative type edge/border to a colour image. Bit like the ragged dark image you get round a colour transparancy where light has bled into the unexposed area.
I've seen examples but possibly I'm using the wrong term in the search engine.

Thanks....

Could we get an example?

I must admit that I am not exactly sure what you are trying to create but here goes....

This is a tutorial for recreating a Polaroid Image Transfer (http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/18750.html), but their border technique might be what you have in mind. Also experiment with changing the modes from overlay to vivid light and so on.

Thanks for the link T. I'll have to have a look for an example in effect the colour image has a faded black border as if it was laid over unexposed film. Hard to describe.

Perhaps this....

Simulating filed out negative carriers digitally....

Try this: Make a selection out to the edges of the image, but leave a border. Feather the selection about 20 pixels. Enter quick mask mode (Q). Go to filters/distort/displace, enter 5% twice. Enter. Choose rust flakes as your displacement map. Leave quick mask mode (Q). Select inverse. Hide the marching ants (Control H). Adjust curves bringing the selection down to black. Done. Play around with all the settings to get what you like.

that is a link to a photo printed with a filed neg carrier(what I assume the poster is asking about)-(only this was actually done in a darkroom)

You can buy border actions "borderit" at http://www.nitorix.com for $150 it comes with a few different borders- the filed neg carrier is one of them- Of course none of them will probably look as good as the real thing- but I am also looking to do this-without buying the actions-so if anyone knows how I could get this cheaper(or as freeware) as an action, I'd appreciate it...I'll try the steps listed above-but I think I'd rather have an action already made.
thanks
