I'm about to send off some digital images to an online print service. I want to ensure that the image sizes fit a 4x6 print perfectly. Can anyone confirm that 1200x1800 pixels would be the correct sizing? Sounds obvious to me, but I want to be sure there isn't some tiny conversion factor that I may be overlooking.
Also, would anyone recommend higher than 300 ppi for a professional-looking print?

If your images have an output resolution of 300 ppi, then a 4x6 is indeed going to be 1200x1800 pixels in size. 300ppi will give you a perfectly good print, all other things being equal.

Thanks for confirming that. I know it's a dumb question, but I wanted to be sure. I only wish that measuring lumber was just as straightforward

According to what I've read on Dry Creek regarding res for print labs ,
a Noritsu would do best at 400 DPI while a FUji would be best at 300 DPI
Can anyone confirm this or is this just nitpicking. I'm talking about the res of the photo so a 4x6 for NOritsu should be 1600x2400
while a 4x6 for a FUJi would be 1200x1800..
My question would be what happens if you deviate from the above and send a file to be printed as a 4x6 at 250 res or 600 res to either one.
Feeling confused but have confidence someone of you will know how to explain this of just say if it matters.

PART 2
As I was driving to the post office I thought about my question and that further explanation might help someone clarify the technique for me.
I am scanning in a small photo. My scanner , an Epson Perfection 1660 Photo ,can scan at different res. As far as I can tell from the specs on the Epson web site I can scan up to 1600 dpi without the scanner interpolating.
CCD Res =1600dpi
BUT does it make sense for me to scan a small photo at 1600? Will I really get more pix than scanning it at 600?
What I would like to do is scan it at a higher res then use Photoshop resize to bring it to either 300 or 400 dpi and go with whatever size that gives me. THen i will add canvas to bring the photo to a standard size. Please tell me if I am on the right track.
But if the printers do just as good a job at 250 Res then resizing would give me a larger print.
Thanks for any help.
