I was messing with Painter tonight and came up with a look I kinda liked...

Started out in Painter 8:
* Opened grayscale image
* File > Clone
* Clone image: Select all on Canvas, Edit > Copy, Edit > Paste to duplicate Canvas.
* Right-clicked on the new layer's name to engage the Layer Attributes dialog; entered 0 in both Position Values boxes to align the newly pasted layer.
* Engaged Impressionist > Pencil Sketch > Detailed Monochrome
* Created a new layer
* Chalk > Square Chalk with clone color setting turned on, converting the brush to a cloner. Also used Cloner > Soft Cloner on this layer to restore some eye detail.
* Saved, closed and opened in Photoshop to finish up.

Final Photoshop layer stack top to bottom:
* 3 pxl frame. Edit > Stroke 3 px, Inside, using black
* Layer of white with hide all layer mask. Added back highlights by airbrushing white using Chalk 36 brush.
* Layer of black with hide all layer mask. Added back shadows by airbrushing white using Chalk 36 brush.
* Corel Painter rendered layer. Chalk > Square Chalk.
* Duplicate of original Background to which Impressionist > Pencil Sketch > Detailed Monochrome was applied in Painter.
* Original Background (turned off).

20-20 hindsight.
* I should have done a better job of giving more definition to the eye on the left (her right eye) before engaging in the transformation.

...but I liked the effect of painting the chalk strokes on top of the Impressionist rendered pencil sketch lines.

I like this a lot Danny, thank you for the details. Have printed them and will give this a go soon. Did you use your Pen for this.... :grin: ?

Not yet. Taxes done, though! - djr

I didn't move out of Painter with this as I ended up working on the wrong layer at one point and needed to salvage what I did. This brought me to the Blenders and spending quite some time blending the hair and face in particular. I'm a little happier with my work on the face which is always difficult. It was a good exercise with the Blenders though and appreciate the nudge to try this out.

Nice (what looks like) Blender > Grainy Blender strokes, Neve. I like this effect a lot.

See reply above to your question. :)

Yes, grainy blender it was but also Goauche ? on the hair. I didn't dislike the idea/use of the Impressionist layer. In fact, I much prefer having something to bite into anyway rather than a blank white canvas! Because of my errors with layers, I lost the detail of the Impressionist layer in the process.
