Hi everyone! I'm a first time user here and have a very basic question. I want to scan some pictures to restore and fix up. I was wondering if someone could tell me the basic steps on doing this (as in the resolution and resizing ) Once I scan one ,for example a picture that is 4x5 and want to turn it into a 8x10. I know i scan it at a higher resolution (300dpi or 600), but when do I resize it? Do I do it the resize image dialog box? Also what should I save it as when I want to open it up and keep on working on it? Thanks for your Help!

Scan it as an RGB TIF image. For the sizes you've indicated, 600ppi sounds fine. Don't worry about resizing until you're done with any image edits, then use your editing app to resize for printing (resize a copy, not your working file).

Surely if you scan at 600ppi, there is no need to resize the image at all, as you have enough pixels to produce the size you want? Simply set the print size in the print dialogue box.
