This old picture doesn't have a lot of major problems. I cleaned up dust, dirt, scratches and used levels to lighten it up. The scan is a little crooked but I don't know how to straighten it and I know there's a way to do it. Otherwise, any suggestions on what more I should do with it?

Thanks,

There are at least two ways to straighten the photo. The first and one that I usually use in the beginning of a restore is to use the crop tool. With the crop tool place the Marquis Border around the picture. If the picture is crooked go to the corner of the Marquis with your pointer and you will notice a little rotate icon. Use that to rotate the Marquis properly and then crop.

You can also select all and use the transform tools to rotate.

Wow! I love the rotate tool associated with the crop tool. I was able to straighten the picture beautifully. Thank you!

Alternatively, where there's a straight edge that's meant to be vertical or horizontal ( the photo edge does fine here), use the ruler tool (Alt click on eyedropper tool to get to it) Click and drag a line along the photo edge, then Image/Rotate Canvas/Arbitrary, then click OK. Now crop straightened image.

Well looking at the picture you posted there are several irregularities around the edges most probably due to jpeg compression. Hopefully these won't be on your original restoration.

If they are there I would recommend that you rescan the original and save it in a different file format like tiff which won't cause the artifacts.

What are artifacts? I haven't seen that term in any of my reading.
