I'm sure this question has been asked before on this forum, but here goes anyway. What is the difference between photoshop cs and photoshop v7.0? Is there much of a difference?

CS has a few bells and whistles that PS7 doesn't, it depends on whether you want or need these as to whether its worth upgrading or not. For me the added extras didn't warrant the expense. However CS2 is now available, and I'll have to do another cost/benefits analysis.

Do remember also, that most brushes, filters, actions, tutorials etc. will now be written with CS2 in mind.

Well i prefer Photoshop CS2 ... there are some very very new features which make it much easier to handle with images ... some features are from Photoshop Elements, such as red-eye-reduction etc.

Photoshop 7.0 is good enough to retouch images, but CS and CS2 make it much easier ... imho

I have CS2 and it IS worth the upgrade :happy: Improvements with tools, filters and the new Vanishing point cloning make things a lot easier. The improved noise reduction gives better results than neat Image with some images. The Smart sharpen tool also gives very good results, and motion and lens blur repair has been made very easy with this tool (when configured for the photo being repaired).
IMO CS2 is much better than CS for restoration work. As I don't do much glamour retouching, I can't say if the improvements would help, but I am VERY impressed with it :cool:

For me, the most important difference is being able to have the histogram on screen and up-dated realtime. Makes it just that much easier to avoid clipping something by accident.

... and the ability to use the latest brushes (from David Nagel, for example), which (everyday more so) are released for CS(2) only.

an what i reall ylike about Photoshop CS / CS2 is ... you can now manage your layersets like your file-system ... you can create layersets-sublayersets-subsublayersets and so on ... i neeeeeded this feature for designing website's an stuff
