I have a very large catalog of photos in Photoshop Elements 3.0 - about 65Gb
of images. I recently purchased a new hard drive so I'd have room to expan
d my catalog. This is causing me a problem that I hope someone here might b
e able to help me with.

I want to move all image files and the catalog to the new drive - and I've d
one this. However, the catalog stills thinks my images are on the old drive
. I want to keep all images on the new drive but I'm afraid to delete the
m from the old drive in case I end up getting thousands of broken links in m
y catalog.

I've tried backing up my catalog and files to the new drive and then doing a
restore. However, this restored the images to the new drive but the catalo
g still references the images on the old drive.

How do I do this so that my catalog no longer looks at the old drive at all?

Thanks in advacne for any help!

Jim

You need to move the photos via Organizer for it to know what the new path is.

Yes, I am aware that moving files in the organizer maintains the new path to the moved files. however, I want to move files that are organized across hundreds of folders on my hard drive. The MOVE command in the Organizer wants to move all selected files to a single folder. Isn't this right?

I don't want to lump all of my images into one giant folder.

Organizer can be pretty fascistic. You pretty much have to resign yourself to letting it do all or nothing, as far as organizing goes. I don't use it for that very reason.

If you are 100% positive you have no duplicate filenames, try File > Reconnect (but you might want to backup your catalog first). This will make a hopeless mess if you have any duplicate filenames.
