In Photoshop CS, the color replacement tool is leaving brush edge marks instead of smooth color. It happens whether I use a mouse or the Wacom tablet. I have tried it on several different computers both Mac Powerbook G4. a high-end HP notebook and an older Compaq. Any suggestions?

I'm also using Photoshop CS ... after reading your post, I've tried every variation and option for the Color Replacement Tool to see if I could 'reproduce' your problem ... no go ... it always paints smoothly .... I only use a mouse ..... Is your Wacom tablet new? ... Could it be that the software coming with it is 'interfering' with the Photoshop brushes presets? ....

Sorry I can't help you more ... I'm moving your Thread to the "Software Forum" ... Maybe someone there had a similar problem .... :o:

Wow. I didn't know there was a colour replacement tool.
I did a little playing after finding it. By playing with Tolerance I was able to get some hard brush edges. Like really low Tolerance, and I could make the edges worse by changing Sampling.

Stroker, maybe that's the answer....

Without seeing the image(s) that you are manipulating, here goes a hunch.
It could be that although the image may look pretty smooth, in fact the colours are quite noisy.

(Without separating the colours from the Luminosity [greyscale] information it is very difficult for our eyes too "see" detailed colour information)

What we could do then is to blur the colours a little while leaving the luminosity untouched....

Try this...(on a new copy of the image)
- Duplicate the layer (<Ctrl><J>);
- Set the blending of the new layer to Color - nothing has happened yet;
- Blur this new layer slightly (increase the radius until you perceive the blurring, then back off a little);
- Merge the two layers back together (<Ctrl><E>)

Now try the colour replacement.
