hello all,

I have a couple of text icons i need to translate but i don't have the sources.

I only have a gif and those icons have a gradient background.

I wonder if anyone could tell me how to work this out?

I have fireworks and Photoshop Cs2.

I have to do about 15 of them so i hope its not too dificult :normal:

translate? not sure what you want here. you want to change the background colors?

it seems like pretty simple text. why not just make new with the text addition tool in photoshop?

but, if you really must keep the text, and what you want is to change the backgrounds, then a simple fill tool set on a low to medium tolerance shld work. just adjust it till you incorporate all the gradients but not the text. if that doesnt work because the lights in the gradient are too close to the text white, then simply paint the rest of the gradients and fill after.

but if you want something else, you'll have to specify what you mean by 'translate'.

What i need is to get rid of the text, to put the new "translated" text and keeping the same background and i don't have the source so i cant juste change it in photoshop
you see what i mean?

ah! ok. i understand.

this image is a bit trickier than i thought at first. it's actually got a double gradient; one vertical and one horizontal. so, a normal gradient painting tool isnt quite as effective as another method.

since this is a very small image, i simply took the pick-up tool on EACH line where there was text and picked up the color, then painted it back down across that line. the simplest way to do that is to use the brush at one pixel wide and paint once off the end of the text, then hold the shift key down and paint at the exact opposite end. this will paint a straight line through the whole thing. just repeat that for every line and save. it shld look pretty good.

Here is a way to do it with CS2 ....You could create a new gradient sampling colours from what you have ....

Open you images in CS2


Make sure they are in RGB mode (one of them was Indexed colors) by going to Image > Mode > RGB Color


Create a new blank/empty Layer on top of your background.


Sample the darker and the lighter colours from your image.


Choose the Linear Gradient Tool and draw a straight line from top to bottom or viceversa.


Create a new blank Layer on top of your new gradient ... and, with the Type Tool, write anything you want or have to...
