I'm trying to get a better handle on B & W conversion...

I was wondering if it's better to do your adjustments-set B & W points, levels, curves, etc-while the image is still in color, then convert to B & W. Or, is it best to convert to B & W first and then make adjustments? Does it really matter??

I shoot color for the increased dynamic range but print b/w. I find it better to convert to b/w after any Color Balance correction. I still use a Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer to convert to b/w. Though using Russell Brown's Hue/Saturation trick is the best. I find it more appropriate to use Curves etc. in b/w. Color Balance is becomng a moot point as I shoot more and more RAW and the images are pretty clean after Adobe RAW...skip
