Here's a pretty young lady in a busy scene. You may want to isolate her before you artify or leave her there. No restrictions on use of this photo. It came from Stock Xchange. Have fun.

No restrictions on use of this photo. It came from Stock Xchange. Have fun. kiska 08-07-2005, 05:03 PM A combination of Painter and Photoshop. Den's brushes, clone, blends. Kraellin 08-07-2005, 05:55 PM oh wow; you really changed it, kiska. looks much better than with all those folks around. very nicely done! one alternative i thought of while looking at yours was adding in maybe one other person, sort of in the background on the left and a bit in the dark. not sure why... just a thought. Craig raniday 08-07-2005, 06:11 PM Kiska, I wouldn't have thought to make it so dark and dramatic. That's beautiful! DannyRaphael 08-08-2005, 12:55 AM Kiska, I wouldn't have thought to make it so dark and dramatic. That's beautiful! :bow:Ditto. Great colors and suggestive form. kiska 08-08-2005, 03:35 AM Thank you guys! Steve Conway 08-08-2005, 09:55 AM Here's the little lady sitting in a painting. Steve raniday 08-08-2005, 03:02 PM Steve, that's so creative and works really well here! Good job. :) Steve Conway 08-09-2005, 10:16 AM I noticed, the more I looked at it, that no one seemed to be aware that she was even there. Looked like she was in some kind of time warp. Hence this interpretation. Thanks. Steve Steve, that's so creative and works really well here! Good job. :) Kraellin 08-09-2005, 11:57 AM a very apt observation, steve, and an equally good job on portraying same. i've seen this same thing with other street performers at times and it always surprises me. i almost always go up to the person and comment or contribute, but lots of folks seem to pretend these artists arent there. quite odd. well done on catching this and portraying it. Craig palms1 08-10-2005, 09:41 AM Why ? not sure I also probably done it a bit backward but ran a watercolour than isolated harpist and basket ! put harp strings back in (roughly ) and put on a black background Palms Kraellin 08-10-2005, 12:31 PM wow, palms! that looks like something out of a fairy tale book. really nice :) steve, did you remove your image? i dont see it now. Craig edit: lol. never mind, steve. i was looking at the wrong post. raniday 08-11-2005, 05:23 AM Palms, I agreen w/ Kraellin, my first thought was it looks like a Walt Disney princess, and I thought those strings might be tough, but you replaced them flawlessly. Steve Conway 08-11-2005, 07:21 AM Palms, it does look like a cel from a Disney movie. Nice one! Steve raniday 08-12-2005, 05:03 PM Ok, here's my take on this one. I'm REALLY showing my age by knowing the words to Scarborough Fair. :) Agreeing with Steve, I noticed, the more I looked at it, that no one seemed to be aware that she was even there. Looked like she was in some kind of time warp. I tried to set her even farther apart from the crowd. Kraellin 08-12-2005, 08:14 PM very nice, raniday. and you're not alone, i remember simon and garfunkel also :) Craig palms1 08-13-2005, 05:58 AM I really like it raniday, particulary the way the background has been done, Craig simon and who ? Palms p.s. only joking Steve Conway 08-13-2005, 08:50 AM Good 'un, raniday! And a bouquet of parslay, sage, rosemary & tyme to you! Steve Steve Conway 08-13-2005, 08:52 AM Or is it parslEy....oh well. Steve dbuckle 08-13-2005, 11:06 AM http://glasscat.smugmug.com/photos/31997216-L.jpg I just joined this forum and I'm a little new to PP. I did this using Studio Artist and PScs, You guys are doing great stuff I like them all. Kraellin 08-13-2005, 05:08 PM welcome to RetouchPRO, dbuckle. and very nice piece there :) Craig raniday 08-13-2005, 07:25 PM Thanks, guys, for the kind words. I've regretted putting the words to the song on the picture because I can't get it outta my mind now!!! :dizzy: Dbuckle, that's really nice. I have a PC, so I can't use Studio Artist, so I'm a little envious. Welcome to the forum. dbuckle 08-13-2005, 08:32 PM Thanks for the kind words and the wellcome. Kraellin 08-13-2005, 09:38 PM Craig simon and who ? palms, you didnt reallly think i was going to let that pass, did you? ;) ...something devious...it's got to be something devious.... you dont have any pictures of yourself posted somewhere, do you? no, no, too obvious.... hmmm..... i'll work on it :) Craig palms1 08-14-2005, 07:31 AM Yep Craig i thought i had got that one past you, as for photo's only take them not pose for them ! ! ! ! ! ! ! :scared: dbuckle welcome look forward to seeing more of your work Palms jaykita 08-14-2005, 10:35 AM Great image to paint, Catherine! Scarborough Fair is a lovely song, i know it too, btw :) Interesting you should think of it for this image. Seems to suit it. Kiska, your creation is simply gorgeous, and would grace any wall! Palms, very nice illustrative effect. Dbuckle, very nice watercolor effect. Good work everyone. Mine was with painter ix, first the kpt filter - pyramid paint effect, and then cloned over with an oil pastel brush. Kraellin 08-14-2005, 10:43 AM Yep Craig i thought i had got that one past you, as for photo's only take them not pose for them ! ! ! ! ! ! ! hehehe :) ok, all this talk about scarborough fair has given me an idea. i'll get back to you ;) Craig Panpan 08-16-2005, 06:34 AM I tried to show that she is connected to the others even though she seems alone. Her audience is behind her back :pleased: . Pierre raniday 08-16-2005, 07:36 AM Pierre, your soft, glowing colors give this a magical effect. I just keep looking at it :) Kraellin 08-16-2005, 08:12 AM pierre, once again i'm reminded of disney. when i saw your image in the thumbnail, i thought for sure i was going to be seeing dwarves and even when i opened the full image i was almost, at first, sure i was seeing snow white and the 7 dwarves :) very nice. Craig Panpan 08-16-2005, 12:03 PM Thank you Catherine and Craig. No dwarves, but I almost see a beastman behind her in the original :surprise: . Pierre Kraellin 08-16-2005, 12:07 PM hehehe :) Craig jch71566 08-16-2005, 12:55 PM I love this image! I couldn't get entirely happy with my interpretation, so stopped with what I have. Mostly used Virtual Painter Oil, and overlayed the facial features to restore detail. Obviously a crop afterword. -Jeff raniday 08-16-2005, 04:23 PM Jeff, I really like that soft, painterly look! I've been wanting Virtual Painter. What version do you use? jch71566 08-17-2005, 08:01 AM Jeff, I really like that soft, painterly look! I've been wanting Virtual Painter. What version do you use? It's an old version. I followed it with a median filter and then soften -- several times. -Jeff Kraellin 08-17-2005, 01:23 PM is it this image that's doing this or did all of you go to the disney illustrator school? nice, jch :) Craig raniday 08-18-2005, 07:27 AM Judy, how did I miss your painting!!!??? You know you're one of my favorite artists, and of course I love all the colors you brought in. Beautiful. Craig, is it this image that's doing this or did all of you go to the disney illustrator school? I think it's the image that calls for soft, dreamy treatments..............but I don't believe we've seen your version yet :devious: Kraellin 08-18-2005, 02:40 PM catherine, yes, i've copped out on this one. i thought of doing an animation of her strumming the strings and setting it with a small bar or two of music, but just way too much work for now and i still dont really have the animation/music composing package i want yet. so this one has to wait. i think i'd have to add a bluebird or two too ;) it really is disney-ish, isnt it. interesting how the original keeps coming up that way in the renditions. regardless, the works are all very nice and i certainly hope no one took any offense from the disney reference. Craig jaykita 08-19-2005, 02:37 AM Judy, how did I miss your painting!!!??? You know you're one of my favorite artists, and of course I love all the colors you brought in. Beautiful. Craig, I think it's the image that calls for soft, dreamy treatments..............but I don't believe we've seen your version yet :devious: Helllllohhh Catherine dear!! Thank you SO MUCH for the lovely remark, i'm blushing!! Made me very happy!! Yessss, i was wondering why no one noticed haha! I really enjoyed doing that one, lovely image to work on. And Craig, i believe we havent seen your version yet. I'm so curious! Peter S 08-19-2005, 03:23 PM First time with something like this. Thought she might look good against an old stone wall, maybe given it a Gaelic look. raniday 08-19-2005, 08:26 PM Thought she might look good against an old stone wall, maybe given it a Gaelic look And you were right, Peter. This is a great look! Hey, Craig! Check this one out. I don't think there's anything "Disney-ish" about it. Anyway, if I could be employed by a company like Disney or Pixar, I'd be one happy Raniday! :rainbow: Kraellin 08-19-2005, 10:09 PM boy, make a couple comments and they hound you forever ;) ok, i'll drop the disney remarks. but, but, peter_s's looks so, so....dis-renaisance. yeah, that's the ticket! renaisance! nice job, peter :) Craig Steve Conway 08-20-2005, 09:45 AM Hey Peter, everyone is right, that's good work. I tried to find some left-over outlines or something, but it really looks original. Steve Swampy 08-20-2005, 10:55 AM Lovely picture. I took a synical approach to this one... "show me the money". Looking at the collection basket it appears she's doing pretty well. Peter S 08-20-2005, 02:27 PM Gee thanks everyone, I have not done much Art work before, mainly restore stuff. Though I was thinking I had made the outlines a little thick??? dis-renaisance. yeah, that's the ticket! renaisance! I must get out my dictionary for this one. Peter raniday 08-20-2005, 07:28 PM Hi, Swampy. Yes, a very different approach! :) Peter, I think the lines work just great here. Kraellin 08-21-2005, 10:34 AM catherine and judy tasked me to do one, so, i gave it a shot ;) Craig Swampy 08-21-2005, 11:59 AM Love it, Craig. Unless you are going for the "dream" look the saturation seems a little low on the Disney characters though. dee dee Kraellin 08-21-2005, 03:11 PM thanks dee dee :) not a 'serious' piece. not gonna worry about it too much, but you're right. hadnt noticed when working on it. Craig raniday 08-21-2005, 06:06 PM Craig, you are so bad!! .....................but really fun. Good one  Kraellin 08-21-2005, 10:35 PM catherine, isnt it the bad ones that are always more fun ;) thanks :) Craig Steve Conway 08-22-2005, 09:42 AM OK, if we are gonna get downright silly about this, here is a little accompaniment for her. Steve Stroker 08-22-2005, 10:50 AM More Art History with some masking action. Swampy 08-22-2005, 11:05 AM Nice, Stroker.. I like the transition fade! Kraellin 08-22-2005, 02:08 PM hehehe, steve, dont let me rub off on you ;) and boy, i havent seen a Pogo reference in YEARS! Craig Swampy 08-22-2005, 02:39 PM Craig.. do you remember "Schmooo"s? dee dee Kraellin 08-22-2005, 02:57 PM dee dee, no, dont recall that one. but i remember lil' abner and the phantom and some others. Craig goose443 08-22-2005, 03:32 PM Stroker, Your treatment of the photo feels like sound waves radiating from the harp. Almost like seeing the music. Very beautiful. I really like your piece. Patricia 08-22-2005, 07:28 PM Stop it! All this talk of things like Scarborough Fair . . . and other things of my youth and young adults days . . . are making me feel old. However, back in those days, I spent the requisite amount of time at the Renaissance Fair, and never really liked it. I much prefer the real (in this case) Irish castles. So I put her in an environment that I felt suited her better. I hope you like it! Painted the new background and the figure in Painter, then merged the two and add texture in Photoshop. raniday 08-22-2005, 07:51 PM Yes, Craig, most ladies appreciate just a little touch of bad boy in her guy. Steve, I was never a Pogo fan, but he plays really well w/ the harpist. I was a serious Calvin & Hobbes fan. I quit reading the comic strips when they went away. Stroker, Your treatment of the photo feels like sound waves radiating from the harp. Almost like seeing the music. Very beautiful. I really like your piece.Goose, very poetic, and since I can't say it any better, I'll just quote you. Patricia, you new background and Painter effects worked out great. Kraellin 08-22-2005, 11:17 PM very nice, patricia :) but, do you remember when IF you had a tv it was only black and white? (*ducks*) Craig Patricia 08-22-2005, 11:52 PM very nice, patricia :) but, do you remember when IF you had a tv it was only black and white? (*ducks*) Craig Oh, yes, I remember very well when we got it - and it was black and white. Howdy Doody was my favorite show! Steve Conway 08-23-2005, 12:28 PM Loved Pogo...and happy to say there are a good many places to see some of the old strips on the net. Gonna really tell my age now, anyone remember Smokey Stover????? Before Pogo, and about the wackiest strip ever. And of course a fav. Steve Kraellin 08-23-2005, 01:18 PM patricia, Princess Summerfallwinterspring. kowabunga! (which bart simpson stole later on) Chief Rain-in-the-Face. ;) Hi-yo Silver; away! dont recall smokey stover. but i did see the original flash gordon when it hit the movie theatres. i even won a raffle at the theatre with my ticket stub. won an official flash gordon flashlight! :) Craig raniday 08-24-2005, 12:43 PM i even won a raffle at the theatre with my ticket stub. won an official flash gordon flashlight! Now, that's just cute! You forgot to mention Clarabel. Kraellin 08-24-2005, 02:00 PM clarabel, of course! and wasnt there another indian besides the chief? someone with a tomahawk maybe? and what was the host's name, the straight guy who always asked the children audience, 'what time is it?!' ? Craig kiska 08-24-2005, 02:11 PM Buffalo Bob?? Are we talking Howdy Doody??? Kraellin 08-24-2005, 07:14 PM buffalo bob! there we go. thank you, kiska :) (yes, howdy doody) Craig Steve Conway 08-25-2005, 10:42 AM For you trivia buffs. In the transition days from black & white to color, Howdy Doody was one of two shows NBC TV first chose to televise in color on a daily basis. The other was an afternoon show called "Matinee Theatre." Color shows were interspersed with other shows during the evenings hours. Very much like high def TV is today. Steve Steve Conway 08-25-2005, 11:14 AM To keep myself on subject here......another in our seemingly endless versions of this image. Steve Steve Conway 08-25-2005, 11:34 AM Decided I liked this one better than the previous version I posted. Steve raniday 08-25-2005, 01:23 PM Steve, I like the second one better, too. It looks as if she's sitting beside a wall of water. Very creative idea, IMHO. Kraellin 08-25-2005, 02:12 PM i like the second one better also. just makes ya kinda wonder. Craig Steve Conway 08-25-2005, 03:49 PM For Catherine and Craig: The nice comments are much appreciated. And to get three people to agree on anything these days is rare. 8-) Steve Fluffbutt 09-02-2005, 10:05 PM Two different Imp effects in one, with a little of the original to bring back those lovely eyes. This was done quite quickly - I'd normally spend more time on the background chalky effect.. corona2632 09-03-2005, 07:44 AM I like the photo-original, therefore I have tried to make imitation of oilpainting, using Photoshop CS2, Impressionist and Painter IX. Thanks Raniday for this photo! Steve Conway 09-03-2005, 09:40 AM Good One Corona! Steve corona2632 09-05-2005, 04:35 AM Good One Corona! Steve Thanks Steve for your comments! raniday 09-05-2005, 07:49 AM Very nice, Fluff. I've played around with Impressionist, but I have to admit I usually end up deleting those layers. I love to see how people use it, and maybe I'll eventually "get it" myself :) raniday 09-05-2005, 07:52 AM And Corona, for some reason I just jumped into the previous page and didn't even see yours! I like this a lot. Maybe you could jot down a few more details on your steps? corona2632 09-05-2005, 08:12 AM And Corona, for some reason I just jumped into the previous page and didn't even see yours! I like this a lot. Maybe you could jot down a few more details on your steps? Thanks for your comments! The first, I use Photoshop with Impressionist. Then I apply Alien Skin Splat and Painter. I do paintings by hands, applying brushes Clone and Oil. Then various layers blending. Sorry, but my English does not allow in more details to speak about techniques of paintings. raniday 09-05-2005, 06:41 PM Corona, your English is very good. Thank you for the information. Peter S 02-24-2007, 03:45 PM Had to revisit this one as it s such a good subject. Plus it might start Craig off with another comic romp. Peter lkroll 02-24-2007, 07:39 PM Started out with the Caravagio/Retinex combo that I used on an earlier rendering, but then I added GREYCstoration and then CheryH's Fingerpaint1 (mods) with different settings on different layers and did some selective erasing. Attached is a crop; here (http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/1350/streetharpistcopyx2lambtl4.jpg)'s the complete rendering. :) |
