Thanks to anyone who can help. Cameraken 08-07-2005, 08:48 AM Hi Scott
Welcome to RetouchPRO
:) I normally charge extra for one hour service. :)
It is very similar to your Concorde picture
Levels
Colour Correct in CMYK
Neat image
Ken Swampy 08-07-2005, 09:13 AM I can't tell you the exact steps, but it was a lot of playing with color balance and curves in the red channel.
There's still some work to do on my version, but it's fixable.
Nice, Ken! Theninja 08-07-2005, 09:24 AM ok ive put the image mode to CMYK.
This makes auto color ghosted out, and i still canot get rid of the green in the elvels lol :\ sorry im really thick. Did pretty much what Ken did. Set my highlight and shadow points then duplicated, changed to CMYK and made some skin adjustments. Flattened, selected, copy and pasted back into RGB file. Found there was still a lot of blue fringing and blue hair so sampled some skin and painted in Color mode. Sampled some of the background to the right and did the same thing to eliminate the blue to the left.
Edit: I like the red Rondon got so did a Color Range and filled with sampled red in Overlay.
Cheers
Dave Theninja 08-07-2005, 10:01 AM but how did you get rid of the gree :\ ? im totaaly new to color restoration you see. Sorry for my incompetance. :( rondon 08-07-2005, 10:09 AM This is Just Channel play... other than the Jerseys which I selected then manipulated with hue and saturation. the girls seems to have blue eyes that can be drawn out further as you address the other needs of this photo.
hope this is helps you in your work. Theninja 08-07-2005, 10:18 AM Rondom, thats brilliant, could you do a step by step if you have time please.
Thanks alot ! rondon 08-07-2005, 10:47 AM I did and undid lots of stuff and had the results on multiple layers with various opacities which I combined.
but basicly I adjusted the channels in several ways.
1. was to bring up the channel window and after viewing each channel i selected each and made some minor adjustments using the adjustments allowed to single channels with image/adjust as well as filters.
2.with channels set back to RJB I used image>adjustments>channel mixer on separate duplicates of the background layer. this is where the opacity as well as layer placement played it's part once I had a few layers.
3. for the Jerseys i used the layer that allowed me to select them best with the wand. then made a new layer with them on it ... ctrl C then ctrl V. then I used image>adjustments>hue and saturation on them.
well hope this helps... I'm sorry I really haven't a set method... I just hop in and see what happens..
one note though. I was ready to post a reply with different results when Ken responded with his rendering... quite nice ... comparing my results at that time I decided it was back to the lab. Cameraken 08-07-2005, 11:54 AM Thanks Swampy and Rondon
Scott
I just converted to CMYK to get the skintone.
First you need to get the overall cast corrected.
If you want to try Auto Colour then I suggest you read this tutorial first
This tutorial will help with the overall colour cast and remove the Green

Dave. I’m getting there aren’t I?
Ken Theninja 08-07-2005, 12:57 PM I folllowed that , but i just seem to be exchanging the green for another color, god ive never been so frustrated in my life as with this picture lol! :( You're there in spades Ken! Good work. I'm going to do it all again to see where Theninja is getting the green thing from.
Cheers

Follow the tutorial. Choose a white collar for the neutral colour.
And Post your results
Ken Theninja 08-07-2005, 01:36 PM ok i followed that, and selected color for the newtral color. Followed that tutorial and here is my resulting image.

Thanks for al lthis help guys. Cameraken 08-07-2005, 02:18 PM Scott
OK. That is actually a lot better. The collar is now grey not green so you have removed the overall cast.
You cannot use auto levels on this picture as the frame throws things off.
Open a levels adjustment layer and put these numbers in
Red 31 1.00 165
Green 32 0.60 163
Blue 65 0.60 147
You should now have something resembling the other postings here.
Hope this helps.
Ken Theninja 08-07-2005, 02:50 PM ahar! thats alot better here have a look at this

Sorry for being a pain, just a really liek to understand rather than just take what others can do :)
So whats next :) rondon 08-07-2005, 06:11 PM I noticed something. If you look at the photo I posted the green cast seems to be on the frame as well. Is this an illusion? Theninja 08-07-2005, 06:23 PM Yup can see the green on there aswell.
I did what ken said but still doesnt look right. Cameraken 08-07-2005, 06:48 PM Scott
Well Done. That is a massive improvement.
What next??? Now there is a question
As I see it you have three options.
1) Call it finished and stop here (Highly Recommended)
2) Play with the levels sliders and see if you can improve on the
numbers I gave you
3) If your still reading you have two more options
3A) If you are naturally gifted in colour then search this site for Flora’s Posts and spend the next few months reading and learning how Flora does Skin tones
3B) If you are not naturally gifted in colour then search this site for Duv’s Posts and spend the next few months reading and learning how Dave does Skin tones
I am posting your steps. So that others can follow just in case you delete the links.
1) Original
2) After Doug’s Tutorial
3) After Levels Adjust
Most people would skip step 2. But it’s so quick and easy that I use it a lot

Thanks Ken..I think. Hi Scott..not sure where Scott came from but glad to know ya! I think with your correction there still is too much cyan. I've quickly tried to adjust what you have done..definetly not the end game but might help you a bit. I've attached a Cyan curves adjustment, result followed by some sampling of some corrected skin and painting in Color mode the hair, background and fringing of the faces, eyes, etc. Hope it helps a bit.
Cheers
Dave Theninja 08-08-2005, 04:25 AM This is some great stuff! thanks alot guys! im alot closer to making it look like what you guys have done! and thats brilliant considering i didnt have a clue before :) jenjen 08-08-2005, 09:48 AM We here is version. I'm not very happy with it. To remove the color cast I went to color balance. Then i basically tried and i do mean tried to color the skin back by creating a new blank layer and setting layer to color. I never can do the skin. Anyway here it is. Cassidy 08-08-2005, 10:44 AM try image->hue/saturation, maybe +18/+10/+2 and then adjust with levels? |
