I have scanned this photo to my pc and have photoshop7 but having problems with this photo

looks like you've just posted a thumbnail. Please post a larger image (upto 100K) preferably about 800x600 pix, so we can have something to work with.

ok, we can open that one, but it's pretty small, so not going to actually work on it.

however, the one obvious point is the red. try the channel mixing tools and color balancing tools. also, any hue tools like a hue map or something along those lines combined with masks might work also.

Agreed with Craig about the size of your image (just follow the second link under my signature to get help about size and resolution for attachments at RP..)

Since your image was quite clear in spite of the reduced size, I had a go anyway ....

I used Levels, Hue/saturation and Selective Color Adjustment Layers to remove the light leak in your picture ...

I was trying this one too and was wondering how you got the skin color back. When i adjusted the colors right for there clothes, there skin was dark and not that natural glow. Did you mask out there skin? Thanks!

but, i want some details. this type of problem picture is one i dont handle well and i'd like some more info. i can do it somewhat and get it better, but not to the degree you do it. point me towards a tutorial if there is one, preferably in psp.

What I did here was:

*Duplicated the background.
*Select>Color Range>Reds
(All what follow can be seen in Attachment 1 ... my workflow)

*With the selection active, I created a Levels AL and on its Mask I painted black the right most part to protect the skin colour on that part of the father' face.

*Levels 1 values:

Input Levels,
RGB: 0 ; 1.00 ; 220
RED: 98 ; 0.47 ; 229
GREEN: 0 ; 1.05 ; 193
BLUE: 0 ; 0.87 ; 189

*followed by: (as you can see from Attachment 1, I adjusted the mask for every following AL)

*Selective Color 1:

REDS:
Cyan> +77
Magenta> -16
Yellow> +3
Black> +7

MAGENTAS:
Cyan> +100
Magenta> -44
Yellow> -27
Black> +22

NEUTRALS:
Cyan> +16
Magenta> 0
Yellow> -1
Black> 0

BLACKS:
Cyan> +4
Magenta> +22
Yellow> +22
Black> -7

*Levels 2

thank you. sadly, what you did doesnt translate well in what psp can do. the select color thing, for instance. however, the curves does translate and that's something i didnt try, curves with other than rgb. so, that might help.

what i did was a mask with a gradient trying to make the mask gradual depending on how much of that color bleed there was at any given spot and then tried to adjust the red out with channel mixer and color balance, i think. i'll have to go back and take a look now and maybe do the curves on the individual channels.

ok, i had another go at this. still tricky for me, but better. the individual color curves definitely helped. but, i had to do several masks and adjustments to get it all. i even had to resort to a bit of cloning and push and smudge in a few minor places to touch things up. but better. :)

The numbers you have put in this means I can see your steps and understand what you did and why. Being able to see your intermediate steps makes understanding a lot easier.

I have spent all my spare time this week on this tutorial (and the blend if one)

For me this has been the difference between feeling elated that I have matched your results rather than being frustrated because I did not know how to move the sliders

I understand that you don’t normally bother with the numbers but by putting them in this time has made things much clearer to me. I really feel like I could tackle the next one.

My attached picture is not an exact copy of yours because I did this without referring back to your steps. It’s not perfect but I’m quite happy with it.
