Has anyone heard of a fairly ancient technique called Schafflining?

Its basically enhancing a mono image for press, and it sort of enhances lines and edges and really makes an images stand out in black and white press.

It used to be done by hand, but now there's a way to do it in Photoshop but not sure how this is done??

Its mostly used within the car industry for Classified ads in the local and some national press and the end result is far superior to an un-edited images of the same sort...

Of failing that can anyone suggest a way to enhance to get the best results to be printed in halftones?

Can anyone help..Cheers...

I've had a look on the web but with no success, it was a process that was crafted on transparency retouching (a bit before my time) but the end result is amazing, i've seen it done in newspapers so i can only assume it has been shopped in rather than had retouched?
I'll try and find an example so i can post it for you to have a look at...
