I had used the Patch Tool on 9-6 while restoring a photo. I went back the next day and when I click on the Patch Tool again my cursor was a cross-hair. I was told that I needed to delete my preferences file. I held down Alt + Ctrl + Shift while starting Photoshop. A window came up that stated: Delete the Adobe Photoshop settings file? yes or no?. I chose no and Photoshop restarted. I tried to activate the Patch Tool and my cursor still had the cross-hair.

I went into Photoshop and deleted the preferences file another way and I still could not activate the Patch Tool. The preference file that I deleted is called Adobe Photoshop Cs Prefs.psp. I had used the Patch Tool several times before.
Can someone please tell how can I activate the Patch Tool.

What happens when you try to use it?

Just to review what you already probably know just in case, to use the patch tool:

Use it like you would the lassoo selection tool by making a freehand selection around the area you wish to patch. You should see the familiar "marching ants" as you would with any selection. Now drag the selection to an area you would like to use as your clone source, and then release your mouse button.

Good Luck,

Gerald,

Maybe you already are aware of this, but if not then remember that the cursor turns into crosshairs when you have <Caps Lock> activated.
