First, hi all folks. I´m a digital photographer needing to improve their photoshop workflow in glamour photos.

I´m trying to learn the technique to convert photos like

http://www.rivo.com.ar/lili_small.jpg

in photos like

http://www.lasposa.info/entrada_index.asp?idioma=1

(inside "colecciones novia 2005") there are a lot of more samples.

You can find a full version of my photo in http://www.rivo.com.ar/lili_big.jpg

I´m searching in a lot of webpages and forums, but without sucess.

Hope somebody help me.

Daniel.

danielalbe and adong, welcome to RetouchPRO :bigthmb:

adong, that's a very nice rendition. Please share with us how you did it.

I must say, I do like Adong's version. Please Share.

This is my version. I firstly corrected a few small things in the original and saved it. Converted the file to greyscale and then to a gold/brown duotone before converting it back to RGB. I saved it as a Photoshop file and then reopened the original colour photo and copied the layer into the duotoned image. Reduced the opacity of the colour layer to about 25% and then created a dodge and burn layer to supress/increase some detail. Final very slight gaussian blur and picking out details with eraser on a copy merged layer

please, tell us how you did it.

Thanks
Daniel.

I dare not try this , however I would take out the small flower or baby's breath to theupper part of her hair, it is sticking out like a sore thumb. Does anyone else think it might need to go? The larger flowers are of course just fine. I just feel that detracts from the beautiful hair and other flowers, and they eye is drawn to it instead of her face. I know this was to be a glamor restoration , but just could not help to mention this. Thanks Neb
Photoshop: The girl is lovley and the dress is so soft and pristine.

Hey Daniel,

Welcome to RetouchPRO.

I'm not a big fan of the "plastic doll" look when it comes to retouching, so I tried to maintain as much of the original texture as possible, when following the skin restoration instructions just increase the opacity of the median layer if that is what you are going for.

1. Retouched the skin until I was completely happy with it (pic 1)
2. Duplicated layer, added heavy median, opacity at 53%
3. Used the smudge tool and "painted" over all the skin to even out the tones on the median layer.
4. Created mask, painted out the median layer around eyes, eyebrow, and lips
5. Used a Channel Mixer adjustment layer to change it to black and white, set opacity to 41%
6. Levels and Curves Adjustment layers to adjust the contrast of the image
7. Gradient Map Layer, gradient from deep (almost black) orange, to medium amber, to white. Blend with color at 62% opacity.
8. Duplicate image, flatten, then drag the copy to the top of the layer stack in the first image. Ran High Pass Filter with a radius of 1.8px and blend that layer with Hard Light.
9. Ctrl+click on the blue channel to create a selection, create a new layer and add a layer mask from that selection.
9. Filled the layer with 50% grey, added 12.5 precent gaussian monochromatic grain, then ran levels on the mask to pull the blacks to about 100 and the whites to about 150 and reduced the opacity of the layer to 19%.

I hope that helps, and again, welcome to RetouchPRO.

Nice work everybody, :classic: this style is well worth remembering.

I dare not try this , however I would take out the small flower or baby's breath to the upper part of her hair, it is sticking out like a sore thumb. Does anyone else think it might need to go? Well seen, neb. Often we get too busy looking at the trees and don't see the forest.

While we're at it, the armpit is always a good place to do some tidying up too.

Hmm, the baby's breath above the ear could be debatable, however yes, the armpit needs at least reducing, but what I saw as one of the majors was what looked like a makeup line aside the breast. I personally think the baby's breath would be best removed, but it does provide contrast

I'm not sure this is what Daniel is looking for, but I made a layer mask to bring back the original color of the dress, which is probably what the ad is for.

oops, everybody (except adong, maybe) forgot the eyes.

In the example that danielalbe posted the eyes have retained their colour, in fact seem a little over-saturated.

-----

For those who are having some trouble describing their steps in english, a good idea would be to take a snapshot of the layer palette (assuming that you are using layers) and post that (.gif is a good option).

Good call Ro,

One of the many advantages of lossless editing with layers, just maked out the adjustment layers over the eyes.

Michael, I'm a big fan of yours. Like your style. I generally try to duplicate what you have done. I've picked up some good techniques thanks to you.

On this image, I follow pretty much up to the Gradient Map layer. Not having used them much before I don't get how you get the gradient from deep orange to amber to white. Any help?

I noticed the jarring collar bone and no one seems to have tackled that. What I did if interested is:

1. On duplicate layer do all healing which is is to eliminate things, zits and so on.
2. When eliminating is done, make a snap shot.
3. On same layer tackle the items I want reduced, collar bone and arm pit. Heal them pretty much away. Large brush and carefull with the blending.
4. Make another snapshot.
5. Set the first snapshot as the active art history. With low opacity, large soft brush with sweeping strokes bring back some of the reduced area to taste.
6. If you go to far bringing back, set second snapshot as active art history and paint with Art History brush to go the other way.

I attached my try. I can't seem to get the same tones as you guys.

I don't know, but I think the original example (http://www.lasposa.info/entrada_index.asp?idioma=1) of the "look" are over retouched...

I don't know, but I think the original example of the "look" are over retouched...Nanis, I fully agree with you....BUT (my 2 centavos from Brazil)..I would call this line of work more "stylised" than actual Glamour.

In Glamour we are trying to fabricate a super-perfect photographic image of a person.

If we consider that the basic technique we are looking at here involves a distortion of skin tone (golden), as well as a distorted colour balance (strong saturation in the eyes) then the photographic limitation doesn't seem to apply - so let's go all the way :classic: and make porcelain skin!!

Why not?

ok, here is my "stylised" version (overtouched, oversharpened and darkened eyes) .... have to admit it was fun!
