Although the following article was posted August 2005, I just saw it today and found it interesting. It is, of course, a lot of speculation at this time.

If Adobe holds to their 18-month release schedule, CS3 should be announced around October 1, 2006.

In March 2006 Adobe CEO Bruce Chitzen announced CS3 would be out 2Q 07.

Well i didnt rate CS2 i went back to my photoshop7. I thought cs2 is great if you want to cheat and not learn how to do techniques yourself, i love to learn and i found that too easy to use. So i shall not be going for this new one!

I saw that a while back too Danny. I'd heard a rumour that it was coming out shortly, but that sounded a bit odd to me. October 06 makes more sense. Thanks for bringing it back to the surface. I was just about to upgrade to CS2, but didn't want to if CS3 was just around the corner.

CS2 has hidden powers that are not always obvious at first glance. The smart object command can improve you rwork flow, the ability to warp is much better than the liquify. the integration of Raw in the CS versions. Dropping browser was rough but once you get used to bridge it can be cool. Layers are easier and quicker to deal with. I have had to deal with the software gets easier senario in the CAD world. I was a highly skilled A class surfacer able to do wonders in my software but over the years it got easier and easier to use. But at the end of the day that is why computers are used or we all be holding pencils and standing in dark rooms.

So - anyone know anything on CS3 yet? If this has already been discussed or whatever, and this is a stupid question, sorry bout that. I just haven't heard. I was thinking of upgrading but would love to know if indeed CS3 is around the corner.

So, any word? :D

In spite of the rumors (that Adobe and Apple are at odds) which I doubt, I think that CS3 will be realeased when all modules in the program are up to PC Vista (64 bit) and Apple Leopard (with Intel dual core) are working as expected.

Since both new operating systems are expected to be available to the general public in late January or Feburary, I anticipate Adobe releasing CS3 by March or April.

To each his own, I guess. Personally, I've learned more about Photoshop since upgrading to CS2. I know things like the Shadow/Highlight adjustment can be done "manually" and I did it that way for a long time, but just this one feature alone saves me so much time in the "real world" work flow.

As Creeduk says, Smart Objects is wonderful when you have to combine Illustrator (vector) art with bitmap. Can't tell you how much this helps in building a customer's display ad which calls for their logo to be combined in the ad with (or over) a photo and be output as a CMYK Tiff file. Resizing for different ad purposes has never been easier! I use smart objects every day.
