Hi,

I'm probably being really dim, but I'm having a problem with the photoshop zoom tool. I distinctly remember that when I used to use it, I could zoom in with the left mouse button, and I could zoom out with the right mouse button. Then my one year old came and sat on my lap and bashed the keyboard for ten minutes, and now when I right click with the zoom tool, I get a little options menu instead, and if I want to zoom out I have to physically change the tool at the top of the screen from a plus to a minus tool, and when I want to zoom in again I have to change it back. I don't know what happened, and I don't know how to change it back to how it used to be, can anyone enlighten me? It's not exactly a major problem, but it's really annoying when I'm right in the middle of something and I forget that it doesn't work the way it used to. Help!

Thanks, Fembot

Until you solve that problem, use ctrl+ and ctrl- or use the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Hold down the "Alt" key, while scrolling, to zoom in and out.

I have never been able to zoom in and out the way you describe, but never the less:-

Sounds to me like the little ankle biter has changed your preferences here.
Try deleting them and Photoshop will create a new set for you on start up.
you will of course have to put back in your own preferences afterwards though.

There is a way to do this when you open Photoshop but I can't remember it right now.

hope this helps

Peter

I think what fembot means, is when you right click, you get the little context menu come on screen that allows you to select zoom in or zoom out.

Thats not the way I read it but a good reminder about those menus anyway. There are others depending on what tool is selected.

I could zoom in with the left mouse button, and I could zoom out with the right mouse button.

You could try resetting your tool presets. go to Edit/Preset Manager and select tools from the drop down menu. then click the little arrow next to the drop down menu and click rest tool presets.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a shot.

Yes your right Peter. It sounds like something different to what I was thinking. Interesting.

What made me think it might be the preferences being corrupted, was I had a small prob recently with them but took me ages to think about starting them afresh.
Every time I opened an image, it would not fill the available screen space as it used to. When I double clicked the hand tool it stayed the same size, if I double clicked the zoom tool to see it actual size, it would fill the space horizontaly but only half vertically.
This drove me mad, the wheel on the mouse zoomed but would not resize the window.
Thats when I thought delete them and start again, make changes one at a time to see which had caused it??? still have not found out. But the zoom problem went away not to return (yet)
