i was wondering how would you accomplish something like this...like how to they get the skin tones/the picture to be like that.....is it some kinda airbrushin through photoshop? it' s like the photo is not in live mode....it;s something i would like to try......

I have a workflow I call the Illustrated Look (or at least that is what others call it). You can get a totally different effect depending on the tweaks you make but here are the instructions.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! this is it. how do they do that?

I would think the last one you posted (original post) would be mainly dues to the material differences, the skin and chair wil lof course reflect light and that material will not it will absorb not reflect so givin the jacket a more finished look. As for the others it looks like Patrick may have the way.

The jacket doesnt look retouched to me, just looks like a brand new jacket - IMO that looks kinda naff, that kinda rugged look just doesnt fit with the jacket - its not his jacket its straight from 'wardrobe', right out of the packet kind of thing.

As for the other, looks like a soft light overlay on a desat layer. possibly with the colours masked in from the original, depending on the intent.

Nancy and Creed already wrote it, it's not too much work:

Desaturated the whole picture down to around 50% and added blue color with the hue slider.

Used a desaturated overlay-layer on top to bring out the shadows
