I have just bought a canon 8000F - Not the latest but all that I could afford ('twas reduced)

The documentation that came with it says that it uses FARE technology when scaning negatives, using IR light to identify and fix scratches and dustmarks.

Yet when I scan, using remove dust and scratches the software seems to apply a softening filter over the whole negative

Am I doing something wrong here???
